Jon Stainsby was a choral and academic scholar at Caius College, Cambridge, and completed a doctorate in English literature at the University of Oxford before studying singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Opera School. His roles in Scotland included Father Augustine (Prokofiev Betrothal in a Monastery) and Demetrius (Britten A Midsummer Night’s Dream), both in co-productions with Scottish Opera. Recent engagements include the baritone role in Claude Vivier Kopernikus with the Nederlandse Opera Talent Development Programme, Ariodate (Handel Serse) for Longborough Festival Opera's Young Artist Programme, and Demetrius/Bottom (Purcell Fairy Queen) for Iford Arts. In 2017 he joined the Alvarez Young Artists Programme at Garsington Opera, covering the title role in their production of Le nozze di Figaro.
